Before Happily Ever After Story 5 - Part Three (Small Update)

“Cori, glad that I caught you. So did you find a wedding dress today?” my dad asks me over the phone He was always one to get straight to the point; unlike me.
“No, I didn’t. It was really stressful and it made my head hurt and I could really use a massage right now” I whine to him as I rub my temples. A bubble bath and a strawberry mimosa would be nice too. Don’t tell Eric it’s a drink. Shhh...
“There will be plenty of time for that during your honeymoon. Don’t start getting stressed now, lovely. Time is running thin” he reminds me. I’m going to ignore his previous comment and focus on the latter.
“I know. You know it’s important for me to find the dress but I didn’t find it today” I say while thinking about the hectic shopping day I had. What is this wedding doing to me? It’s making me dislike shopping!
“You’ll find your dress but until then keep looking. Only a few more months until the wedding and then you’ll be Eric’s problem and not mine anymore” my dad says chuckling. Ha. Ha. Ha.
“I’m really feeling the love, dad” I tell him sarcastically. I’m not that much of a pain in the ass...right?
“Come on, you know you weren’t the easiest child to control when you were younger; even now. I don’t know how Eric has calmed you down. It still amazes me” he says in wonderment. Yeah, he calms me down all right. Although, I’m not sure if I’m really calm when he is spanking my butt.
“I guess he has the magic touch or something. Now did you just call to remind me how much of a pain I was as a child or did you call me for some reason?” I ask him trying to change the subject. I pretty much always call my dad if I want to talk. He usually only calls me for a specific reason.
“Yes there is a reason. I called to tell you that your mother has reached out to me” my dad says. I was not expecting that to come out of his mouth.
“Well, did you talk to her? What did she want from you?” I asked in total surprise. My parents do not like each other at all, for obvious reasons.
“I did talk with her as unpleasant as it was. Your mom wants to contribute something to your wedding. She feels like she needs to do something special for you since you two are back to speaking terms” he informed me. Since I sort of reconciled with my mom a few months back, we keep in touch with each other a few times a month. I’m not going to lie, it’s still a little awkward between us; at least for me. I still have to come to terms with how my mom treated me when I was little. Lets just say, it is a work in progress. So I’m not sure what to make of what my dad just told me.
“Well, what does she have in mind?” I ask him curiously. Something like a spa day perhaps? Because my nails could do with some TLC. Can you tell that the massage is still on my mind? “Your mom is interested in buying your wedding dress for you. When she called me earlier today, I told her that you might be buying a dress today. So if you didn’t find one, then she wanted to maybe take you to pick out a dress to buy. I’m not quite sure why she has a sudden need to buy it for you. I think she wants to make up for lost time or something like that. Honestly, she has a lot of nerve thinking she can just waltz into your life…..” my dad  into the phone angrily. I let him ramble on about my mom and I start to think about my mom buying me my wedding dress. I’m not sure that I want her to buy my dress. That means that I will always have some kind of connection with her and the dress and I don’t know if I really like that. Like I said, I’m not sure if we’re at that level yet; or if we ever will be. Does that make any sense? This might be something that only makes sense in my head.
“You know what, dad? Let me think about it, okay? I’ll get back with you on it” I cut him off while he was still ranting. Yeah, my mom is a sore spot with him for obvious reasons.
“Okay darling. Call me when you decide so I can speak with your mother. Now don't think you have to because she is reaching out to you. Don’t feel guilty if you say no” he tells me.
“I know…” I say just wanting this conversation to end. I have more important things to be doing; like talking to Eric. Hmmm, I wonder what he will think about this?

“Okay, just making sure. Love you” Dad says and then I finally hear the click of the phone ending.

- Small update but I wanted to get something out for you all. I'll have a longer part up hopefully really soon.
